Rethinking in a contemporary key a great classic of the late-romantic ballet repertoire, The Nutcracker, reworking, with modern ardour, the original by Petipa-Ivanov-Tchaikovsky
This is the project of the young Italian choreographers Tommaso Monza and Claudia Rossi Valli, who have rethought the Christmas ballet par excellence, dedicated to children. A Nutcracker that ties in with some key symbols of the archetype, which rereads the story of E.T.A. Hoffmann Nussknacker und Mäusekönig and approaches the theme of the transition from childhood to adulthood through a series of questions.
Did the dreams we had as children come true? Are we who we imagined we would become? Have we fulfilled our expectations? Are we really who we wanted to be?
On stage, extravagant characters who find themselves at a tête-à-tête with their own selves, their dreams and failures. There will be no lack of second act divertissement, but it won't be in the Land of Sweets: translated into today it will show off new dances shaped by the performers.

Tommaso Monza is among the selections for the CID Cantieri 2017 project, which offers support to the creation - in terms of reception and economic spaces - is a guarantee of visibility once the choreographic work is completed. For the realization of the work he spent a period of residency at Teatro la Cartiera in Rovereto in August and September. The performance was presented in the same theatre on 04 September 2017 as part of the programme of Oriente Occidente Dance Festival of Rovereto.
